Introducing our Protecting and Healing Organic Paw Balm!
Your dogs paws go through a lot! While we humans almost always wear shoes to keep our feet protected from the elements, our dogs paw pads have to stand up to concrete, dirt, sand, debris, and high temperatures, just to name a few. Thats why its so important to keep your dogs paws clean and healthy - after all, a sore paw or infection will keep them from walking, playing, and doing all the things they love most in life!
Thats why weve developed an organic paw balm. We used all-natural ingredients to create a soothing, protective salve that keeps your dog comfortable and ready to go. We included ingredients with some really great benefits:
Coconut oil and olive oil: responsibly sourced oils are the main soothing ingredients in our salve. Did you know that coconut oil has been recognized as a natural antibacterial? Rubbing this on your dogs paws will help keep any cuts and scratches from getting infected while keeping those toes comfy. Itll help soothe itching and rubbing!!
Shea butter: youve probably seen shea butter listed in some of your lotions and shower gels. Its a great softening agent for your dogs skin, too! It does offer some natural sun protectant properties, and while the bottoms of your dogs paws probably arent getting a lot of sun exposure, this makes it a great option for irritated elbows and scaly patches. Its soothing enough that it can help stop biting and scratching of irritated areas!
Calendula: this is a super helpful medicinal flower, commonly known as the marigold! For centuries, people have turned to calendula to soothe irritation, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation and pain. Its still proven as an effective healer and protector for dog and human skin alike! Its great when it comes to promoting wound healing and has been a noted helper for many pet owners.
Our paw balm is great for dogs that live in any climate! With the winter coming up, your dogs feet may be exposed to cold pavement, snow, and salt, depending on where youre located. Dip their paws in our paw balm before your next walk to keep them comfortable and protected from debris! To learn more, join our Facebook group, Pawsitively Pure Living for Dogs. Why Healthy, Responsibly Sourced Pet Supplies are Better for Everyone
For dogs and humans alike, nutrition is one topic that continuously evolves and changes. No doubt youve heard of at least four or five new fad diets over the last year. The low-fat diets of the 1980s shifted to the low-carb diets of the 2000s. One minute, grains are the largest portion of the food pyramid; the next, were cautioned to limit our wheat and grain intakes. Similarly, popular dog diets go through phases. Should you look for the grain-free dog food? The raw diet? Which type of food is best for your dog and for the community at large?
If you know our story, you know that wholesome, nutritious, human-grade ingredients are at the heart of our mission. Like so many other pet parents around the world, we got fed up with recall after recall of commercial pet foods and decided to take our dogs nutrition into our own hands. Since then, weve noticed a significant improvement in our dogs skin and coats, their energy levels, and the clarity of their eyes and ears. But for us, the human-grade food movement is about so much more than that. We think its the best option for the community at large for a number of reasons.
No two dogs are the same, and neither are their dietary needs
Your dog is so unique! What other dog barks the way they do, gets the zoomies the way they do, or tumbles into playtime like they do? Your dog is an individual, and you wouldnt have it any other way. Just as their personalities are unique, their body chemistry is their own, meaning they may react differently to different ingredients in food. Cookie-cutter diets just wont cut it anymore.
Since we switched to whole foods for our dogs, weve found that its easier to include dietary supplements and minerals with their unique food blends. For a rundown of our favorite Mercola supplements, check out our blog. We work with our dogs vets to make sure theyre getting all the nutrients they need to improve their quality of life.
Responsible sourcing is good for the environment
For our food and treats, we choose wholesome ingredients from responsible sources. Not only does this help us make sure we know exactly whats going in our dogs tummies, but it also means were relying on ethical food producers whose methods benefit the environment. Without a healthy planet, we wont have anywhere to let our dogs run and play! We think that environmental protection should be a cause for companies of any size and industry.
A healthy diet is a preventive measure
So much of your dogs health relies on their diet. Obesity in dogs can cause joint pain, heart illnesses, low energy, and diabetes. On the other hand, unappetizing food can leave your dog underweight, bored, and tired. Your dogs quality of life is based largely on their nutrition. Think about it: we use food and treats as training rewards, and we often share our mealtimes together.
Providing your dog with the right diet helps give them the energy they need to stay active and to properly metabolize food and treats. It also helps stave off diseases like arthritis and heart disease. In short, a healthy diet is pretty darn important.
How to get started with human-grade dog food
We always recommend speaking to your veterinarian before you make major changes to your dogs diet. They can offer you insightful tips on transitioning and on which supplements to add to their bowl. A Protein Your Pup Can Gobble Up
You Are What You Eat
Here in the United States (and all around the world), dietary health is a hot topic for a huge number of adults. According to Statista, the second-most popular New Years resolution for 2022 is healthier eating, with 44% of resolution-setters naming this as their top goal. As they say, you are what you eat, and improving your diet is a great way to improve your overall health from head to toe. Whether you realized it or not, the same goes for your dogs.
Providing your dog with a healthy diet is one of the most effective ways to improve his quality of life. But as you search for a healthy diet for your dog, you may wind up with more questions than you had when you started. What exactly is a healthy diet for your dog? Whats the best way to implement a healthy diet?
What is a healthy diet for your dog?
The biggest question you need to answer when choosing the right diet for your dog is whether youll feed them dry food or wet food. There are benefits to each depending on your lifestyle, but for the most part, fresh, natural, wholesome meals present a healthier option than kibble. Many natural dog foods are appropriate for dogs at any age and life stage and are easy to customize as needed.
Once you choose between wet (raw or natural) and dry food, its time to start reading the label! Choose a food that has ingredients you can see and understand without a lot of extra grains, carbohydrates, and other such fillers. You want to make sure your dog is getting an appropriate amount of protein, calcium, phosphorus, and other nutrients. The right amount of each nutrient will depend on a number of factors including your dogs age, breed, weight, activity level, and more.
How a Healthy Diet Can Change Your Dogs Life
Now that youve chosen an appropriate food for your dogs needs, its time to start feeding! In certain aspects, feeding raw or natural food does require a little extra effort on the humans part youll have to schedule regular feeding times, measure out portions, and perhaps prepare the food by warming it up (i.e. bone broth). Are the benefits worth the extra effort?
All signs point to yes, according to any pet parent whos fed their dogs with Pawsitively Pure. Here are just a few of the reasons why a healthy diet is the key to a healthy dog:
Keeps gums and teeth healthier
Dogs are notorious for having stinky breath, but it might not be all their fault! Most commercial dry dog foods are made with an abundance of starch and carbohydrates, which both break down into sugar. As we all know from our dentists warnings around Halloween, too much sugar can cause tooth decay which leads to bad breath.
Some experts have argued that crunching on kibble can scrape away some of the buildup around your dogs teeth and gums, but according to Dog Food Advisor, that scraping action doesnt remove tartar from the critical zone nearest to your dogs gums. Prevention is the best method to keep your dogs teeth healthy, and providing your dog with a diet thats low in sugar and carbohydrates is a great place to start.
Boosts the immune system
Speaking of prevention, a healthy immune system is the ultimate prevention against illness and disease. Think about it: how much better do you feel when you stop ordering fast food and start eating fresh fruits and veggies? All the vitamins and minerals found in your dogs meal help keep their metabolism moving smoothly and help them stay fit and healthy well into their golden years.
Supports healthy muscle tone
Protein is the foundation on which every cell in your dogs body is built! Thats why wholesome, complete proteins are such an important part of your dogs diet. Many commercially produced dry dog foods are made with meat by-products that include bone meal and other scrap parts of the protein. Fresh, gently cooked food is made with nothing but the good stuff.
Protein especially aids the production of healthy muscles, which can in turn help support your dogs joints. Healthy muscle tone can help your dog stay active and healthy at every stage of their life. It also helps your dog recover from injuries more easily!
Improves digestion
One of the major things pet parents tend to notice after they switch to fresh food is that their dogs poops are often smaller and less frequent. While this is more convenient for us humans, its also a good sign that your dogs are getting the nutrition they need. With a fresh diet, dogs usually have smaller poops because their bodies are more easily able to absorb the nutrients from their food, leaving less waste behind.
Supplement your dogs fresh diet with some delicious dog-friendly bone broth and youll be giving their digestive system a double dose of support! Bone broth is packed with healthy gelatin, which effectively coats the digestive tract and protects it from injury and disease.
Start Feeding Fresh Today
Many pet parents are hesitant to switch their dogs diet, especially if their dog has sensitive stomach issues. Were here to let you know that transitioning to fresh food isnt as hard as it may seem! As you make the transition, gradually replace your dogs old food with a portion of their new fresh food until their whole bowl is filled with fresh food. Take it slowly and monitor your dogs reaction to their new dinner.
